Churchill Academy is a 199.5 kWp solar array on a school previously known as Churchill Community Foundation School and Sixth Form Centre, in the village of Churchill, North Somerset.
With sufficient roof space and high energy bills, the school wished to install solar PV and decided to partner with Low Carbon Gordano to benefit from a community funded system. In this way, the school did not have to cover the costs of the solar panels and their installation and management, and instead benefits by being able to buy electricity from LCG at a discounted rate, reducing energy bills and improving its carbon footprint.
The array was installed in 2018 and comprises 565 panels fitted across four of the school’s buildings and is estimated to generate 199,253kW hours per year. It also gives opportunities to educate and inspire students about sustainability and renewable energy technology.
The project is being managed in partnership with Bright Renewables.
